Scope
Stylist, Creative Director
Opening set for Actress (UK)
Custom performance styling and creative consultation
Objective
Craft a look that aligned with the emotional tonality of Eileen’s set and the ambient-leaning experimental world of Actress.
Creative Brief
Eileen’s live set for Actress demanded more than stagewear - it needed an extension of her sonic identity, one that merged vulnerability with control, ambient density with clean structure. My goal was to style her in a way that felt fluid, emotionally layered, and performance-aware - anchoring her visually in the same liminal space her music inhabits.
Creative Direction
Mood & Concept
-
Explored the visual theme of soft armor - blending structured silhouettes with sheer, fluid textiles.
-
Wanted the look to suggest emotional permeability without sacrificing presence on stage.
-
Balanced ambient sound textures with physical form: how fabric could mirror rhythm, restraint, and decay.
Garment Selection
-
Custom-styled with a monochromatic, tonal palette to keep focus on silhouette and form in low lighting.
-
Layered technical mesh and tailored workwear pieces to contrast fragility and tension.
-
Details like hardware accents and asymmetrical cuts echoed sonic dissonance and experimentalism in her set.
Performance Considerations
-
Styled for movement and ventilation - allowing the look supports her soundscape rather than dominate during the performance.
- All materials were selected for subtlety and paired according to each artist.
Execution
-
Collaborated directly with Eileen to understand her setlist’s emotional arc and performance flow.
-
Conducted multiple fittings to test how each piece interacted with posture, motion, and light.
- Partnered with the photography team for content capture.
Outcome
-
Eileen’s performance opened the night with a strong visual and emotional presence, setting a distinct tone before Actress took the stage.
-
Received positive feedback from audience and venue photographers - editorial images from the night were reshared widely within SF’s music/art community.
- The styling became part of her emerging visual identity, used across her press photos and digital profiles post-performance.
