Objective

Craft a look that aligned with the emotional tonality of Eileen’s set and the ambient-leaning experimental world of Actress.

Creative Brief

Eileen’s live set for Actress demanded more than stagewear - it needed an extension of her sonic identity, one that merged vulnerability with control, ambient density with clean structure. My goal was to style her in a way that felt fluid, emotionally layered, and performance-aware - anchoring her visually in the same liminal space her music inhabits.

Creative Direction

Mood & Concept
  • Explored the visual theme of soft armor - blending structured silhouettes with sheer, fluid textiles.
  • Wanted the look to suggest emotional permeability without sacrificing presence on stage.
  • Balanced ambient sound textures with physical form: how fabric could mirror rhythm, restraint, and decay.

Garment Selection
  • Custom-styled with a monochromatic, tonal palette to keep focus on silhouette and form in low lighting.
  • Layered technical mesh and tailored workwear pieces to contrast fragility and tension.
  • Details like hardware accents and asymmetrical cuts echoed sonic dissonance and experimentalism in her set.

Performance Considerations
  • Styled for movement and ventilation - allowing the look supports her soundscape rather than dominate during the performance.
  • All materials were selected for subtlety and paired according to each artist.

Execution

  • Collaborated directly with Eileen to understand her setlist’s emotional arc and performance flow.
  • Conducted multiple fittings to test how each piece interacted with posture, motion, and light.
  • Partnered with the photography team for content capture.

Outcome

  • Eileen’s performance opened the night with a strong visual and emotional presence, setting a distinct tone before Actress took the stage.
  • Received positive feedback from audience and venue photographers - editorial images from the night were reshared widely within SF’s music/art community.
  • The styling became part of her emerging visual identity, used across her press photos and digital profiles post-performance.

Why It Matters

This project reflects my approach to performance styling and visual identity: emotionally attuned, future-facing, and deeply collaborative. Whether styling a musician, designing a brand campaign, or directing an editorial, I build from the inside out - starting with narrative and mood, then translating that into form, function, and presence.
